Starting Our First Whole30 + A Giveaway!

I cannot believe this is the first time I'm doing The Whole30. I mean, I can. But I've needed to do this for so long. I have so many weird allergies and weird immune issues and weird weight issues and weird stomach issues. But, I like cheese. And I LOOOOOVE bread. We're basically married. And divorce is a hassle. I'm a cheese and bread lover, not a fighter.

If you've never heard of Whole30, in my own words, it's basically a 30 day challenge where you only consume natural foods. Food such as meats, seafood, veggies, fruit and nuts. No dairy, grains of any kind, beans and sugar. It has been proven time and time again that eating this natural way can reset your metabolism, fix your gut health, increase your energy and good mood and can even help you lose weight!

We picked now because, well, the sooner the better. And partly because we have no crazy parties or events coming up. And I would love to lose some stomach bloat (toddler sized) fat from my belly before summer.

I would HIGHLY recommend reading The Whole 30, A 30-Day Guide to Total Health and Food Freedom. Melissa and Dallas Hartwig are food health geniuses. It's inspirational, informative and will completely set you up to prepare you for your first Whole30! Not only do I recommend this book, I'm giving it away to one of you after I've made it through the first two weeks of my challenge. Because I feel as though it could change a life, much like I feel it will do for me. I'll give instructions on how to enter at the bottom of the page!

I may have overdone it a bit on groceries. A lot of the oils and spices we had to buy new because we didn't have them. Also, meat. I have a small farm of meat in my freezer and fridge. Mike wanted to die after we rang out at Whole Foods and Trader Joe's. But here is my thought process. I don't ever want to run out of food or options. I know in the past when we've tried a new way of eating, I'll make this super strict menu and then I only buy those 4-5 meals. Then I get bored and want to eat a tub of Nutella so I say "faahgit about it!" I do not want to get bored. I know it's prissy to admit, but I easily get bored with food. I know it's something I should work on, and this will make me have to do that. But I also want our first week of food to be exciting and flavor filled. Does that make sense?

I am very passionate about the fresh, non gmo, no sugar movement. My favorite saying is "we're supposed to eat food. But all we eat is "food like" products." I don't like not knowing what I'm eating and what it took to make it. I don't like that growing up on all processed fat free and sugar loaded bull shit has caused me a hell of a lot of trouble now. I don't like that kids are stuffed with Tyson chicken nuggets shaped like cars and goldfish and yogurt with so much sugar, they may as well eat a dang snickers bar. And to be honest? I'm almost 27. It won't be terribly long before I think about having kids. And if I can't practice what I preach and practice what I believe, my children will go down the same sad food path that I went on. Now is a better time than EVER to make a change.

If we all made the change, if we all realized how truly healthy and energized we feel eating REAL foods and we DEMANDED it be available to everyone, the world would be one step closer to a better place. EVERYBODY THAT FEELS ME SAY YEEEYUHHH!!!!

Okay, here's the plan. I've made a printable of our menu, if you want to follow in our footsteps. I want to stress that this is our first time, so we are by no means pros at this. At the end of the week, I'll gather photos of every dish, link or write out the recipes to go with it, and break down how it went for us. I just wanted to give you a printable menu in case you're doing it with us, and also because I'm really confident this week will be great!

Big shout out to Steph at Stupid Easy Paleo and Melissa at The Clothes Make the Girl for their incredible recipes that will get us through our first Whole30. And big ups to Pinch of Yum for making a bomb diggity green sauce that will make everything, like veggies and grilled chicken, taste AHHHHmazing.
